VALIANT GOLD BOOK VARIANT COVERS

VALIANT GOLD BOOK VARIANTS are cover variants of early Valiant Universe (and later with the New Valiant Universe) issues which were printed in limited quantities and distributed to retailers and fans for promoting Valiant comics. At the time, Marvel was using gold ink to indicate second printings, but the Valiant variants quickly became highly sought-after and have become some of the most valuable and limited early Valiant issues. Issues can be identified by a gold or yellow Valiant logo box and/or a gold embossed title logo. One of the rarest of these variants, ETERNAL WARRIOR #1, has a gold Valiant logo box and a regular flat black title logo. It also has a cover price and the approximately 2,500 copies were mistakenly distributed to retailers and subsequently sold as if they were regular issues. With sky high printing numbers on some of Valiants inaugural issues and with such limited quantities of the gold book variants, the relative scarcities of the gold book variants to their regular counterparts is extremely high. A version of the gold book program was reinstated when Valiant relaunched the publishing line in 2012.
